LEARN THE SIGNS | SPEAK UP |  REPORT ABUSE

Every year, Project C.H.A.N.C.E. organizes the "Safe Horizons Donation Drive" that benefits local shelters that serve children and/or families in crisis. Dependent on the need, the Drive may also benefit an underprivileged family in the El Paso, Vinton, Canutillo, Fabens area.

Leaving an abusive relationship is more than just emotionally difficult. Many women who use their services leave behind everything they own just to escape. Sometimes women and children arrive at these shelters with just the clothes on their back.

At Project C.H.A.N.C.E. we are committed to bringing the community together to assist local shelters that make it their mission to keep homeless families together in a safe, stable environment, where they can enjoy the privacy of their own space and the sense of dignity that brings. Homelessness is a global problem and results from the combined effects of extreme poverty, lack of affordable housing, decreasing government supports, the challenge of raising children alone, domestic violence, and fractured social supports. Families now make up 40 percent of the country’s homeless population. Within these families, more than 1.3 million children are homeless at some time each year. These homes provide shelter, security and basic services to women and their children, teach and encourage mothers to cherish and respect their own dignity and to help them build on their own strengths which enable them to provide independently for themselves and their children. Once a family becomes homeless, it is extremely difficult to get back on their feet – for single mothers in particular. Leaving an abusive relationship is more than just emotionally difficult. Many women who use their services leave behind everything they own just to escape. Sometimes women and children arrive at these shelters with just the clothes on their back. Many families and individuals struggle each day to obtain the basic necessities needed in order to live---food, water, clothing---while others struggle to afford necessities such as toilet paper, baby diapers, cleaning supplies, bus tokens, soap, laundry detergent, tooth paste, etc.

2019 Donation Drive  Beneficiary

This year's Drive will benefit the Paso Del Norte Center of Hope. The Center of Hope exists to protect victims of human trafficking and modern-day slavery and to lead anti-trafficking efforts within the region through outreach, education, and victim-centered services. The Center of Hope provides a Safe Haven (shelter) for victims of sex and labor trafficking, mobilizing the resources of the community to meet the physical and mental needs of the victims in one of the most intense areas of trafficking in the nation.

Some of the services provided include:

 Housing
 Food & Clothing
 Healthcare
 Immigration Assistance
 Employment
 Legal Assistance

El Paso has become a hotbed for human trafficking. This horrifying crime happens here, and as happens in so many cases, it involves underage boys and girls being used for sex – some as young as 12 years of age.

Once a person escapes the perils of the sexual exploitation, it is imperative they receive services to help them heal, integrate back into society, and, in many cases, reconnect with their childhood. The organizations this drive benefits help fulfill the needs of the survivors. Survivors often enter shelters with nothing; with your help, we can provide the most basic essentials. There is nothing more frightening than the thought of a person being trapped in this kind of hell. The road back for a person who has been trafficked/exploited like this could be a long one. Let’s help make sure no one has to endure this abuse.

Thank you for your time. God bless.
